How to use a Tamper Cart on road tape

Tamping is what seats pavement marking tape into the surface, and our instructions call it the most important step. The Tamper Cart (RTC-2) carries up to 200 lb of weights over an 8″ rubber roller so that crews can apply the pressure the tape requires.

- Load the cart with a minimum of 200 lb for tape on existing surfaces.
- Make three passes back and forth over each part of the tape.
- Do not twist or turn the cart on the tape.
- For symbols, start in the center and work toward the outside edges.
- Check that all edges are firmly adhered, then open the road to traffic.
Good tamping takes a little time, and it protects the rest of the job. The cart works with our manual and motorized applicators. See all road tape applicators, and check marking guidance in the MUTCD.
